The Koh Samet Mermaid. Sunthorn Phu (1786-1855) is probably one of the most respected poets among Thai people. In Phra Aphai Mani, a mermaid is saving Prince Aphai Mani from the sea and takes him to Koh Samet. This statue is now located opposite Naga Bungalows at the south end of Saikaew beach |

Trips to Koh Talu / Koh Kudee Located only a few kilometres off shore, these protected islands are some of the best dive sites in the area, With beautiful coral reefs, turtles, rays, interesting schools of fish. This is an ideal area for snorkling with lots of breathtaking sights only seen around these islands. there are nice coves, beautiful beaches with white powdery sand, There is no accommodation on these islands. COASTAL WALK OF 9 BEACHES Saikaew Beach - Hat Naga - Ao Phai - follow the path in Ao Phai past samed villa resort - this leads to Ao Phutsa / Tubtim - follow the path way at the end of the beach past Tubtim Resort, this takes you to the secluded resort of Ao-Nuan - at the end of the beach follow the up-hill path leading to Ao Cho, walk the length of the beach through to Ao Cho Hideaway Resort - follow the pathway through the resort to the next beach of Ao Vongduern, here walk to the end of the beach to Vongduern Villa Resort, follow the path to next beach of Ao Thian /Ao Sangthian walk the full length of the pathway through to Ao Lungdum. - thats as far as you can walk along the coast. - will take 1 - 2 hours - wear sensible trainers - not flip flops. |
CAT RESCUE CENTRE "BAAN MIAW" This is a charity service, relying totally on donations from the public it is located opposite Ao Klang Resort in Ao Klang in the North of the island. The owner of the resort looks after all of the stray cats & makes sure they are well fed & healthy & organises vet visits |
BAN PHE VILLAGE Ban Phe is a very interesting typical Thai village with some great shops and photo opportunities, - have a day away from the beaches of Koh Samed, get the ferry boat over take a left from the ferry pier, walk 2km down into the village & explore the small "soi's" side streets. |
FISHING Fishing on Koh Samet is a popular pastime, you often see the local residents sitting on the rocky prominences patiently waiting for a bite no licence or permission is needed, enjoy your catch & have a local beach restaurant cook it for you bring your own fishing rod with you, as you cannot rent or buy them on koh samet |
